If you have found the dream apartments that you have always
wanted, with your application having been accepted, lease signed and initial
payments made, no doubt you must be a happy person now. Perhaps, you now reckon
there is nothing more to worry about. However, there is a lot more that needs
to be done before the moving date, to ensure a successful move. Some of the
things that need to be done before the moving date include:
· Confirm the details
Contact the management company to find out whether the apartment
is ready for you to move in. Find out when you can collect the keys and the
time you will be allowed to occupy the premises. Furthermore, find out from the
management whether the apartment is clean and move-in ready. You do not want to
arrive at your new premises only to find loads of litter and junk strewn all
over the property and bathrooms looking dirty.
It is equally important to get measurements for the
properties doorways and corridors to determine how well your furniture will be
able to get through. Having prior knowledge will help you make alternative
arrangements- perhaps to reconstruct your stuff or hire a contractor to fix
what needs fixing.
· Hire movers
If you are interested in a stress-free and safe move, it is
advisable to consider hiring a moving company. Make sure to do your research
before hiring a mover to avoid getting disappointed. It is advisable to hire a
company with a good reputation. A good company is highly recommended for its
motivated and experienced moving team. Therefore, you can expect your move to
be conducted within the stipulated timeframe and budget, without unnecessary
inconveniences. In addition, find out whether the movers will be bringing along
additional packaging boxes and tape to package your items.
· Utility & cable setup
It is important to contact your utility and cable company at
least 2 weeks prior to the move in order to effect the necessary changes by
transferring your accounts with your providers. The earlier you initiate the
process the better it is for you; otherwise, you will be forced to wait for an
installation appointment for a long time.
· Blankets, toolbox & cleaning supplies
These three items come handy in ensuring a successful move.
A few of your old blankets can be used to cover large furniture items from
scratches. Although any professional moving company will bring along several
wrapping materials, old blankets can offer additional protection. A toolbox,
consisting of a hammer and a few screwdrivers, can come handy in
disassembling/assembling items quickly, while cleaning supplies can be used to
clean up key areas.
